Physical Education & Health

Grade 3/4

In Semester One, students begin to make decisions that enhance their health, safety, and participation in physical activity. They engage in activities like modified volleyball, striking sports, and minor games, focusing on refining locomotor and non-locomotor skills. Students explore fair play and teamwork while using descriptive language to explain movement concepts. They are also encouraged to understand how warm-ups and stretching benefit their physical performance.

In Semester Two, students participate in Jump Rope for Heart and a Two-Hand Striking Unit. These activities build on their decision-making skills and understanding of effective movement patterns. Vocabulary development and stretching routines continue to reinforce the connection between physical activity and health.

Grade 5/6

In Semester One, students demonstrate their ability to perform specialised and manipulative skills in various movement scenarios. Activities include handball, cricket, and soccer, focusing on refining techniques and understanding the principles of gameplay. Teamwork, inclusivity, and fair play are emphasised to foster a safe and supportive environment. Students also consider how physical activity promotes lifelong health and well-being.

In Semester Two, students continue to develop and apply their movement skills in a range of contexts, with a focus on leadership and collaboration in team sports. Activities like handball, cricket, and soccer encourage students to reflect on their role in fostering inclusivity and promoting fair play. Students are also introduced to strategies for maintaining physical activity beyond school settings.
