Year 9 and 10: DAV Debate Competition

Al Siraat Secondary students recently attended the Annual British Parliamentary Debate Competition, organized by the Debate Association Victoria at Huntingtower School on Sunday, 25 August 2024. Our students departed the College to Mount Waverley at 8am and returned back at 6pm! It was a day full of learning new information and skills, invaluable experiences and fun!

Our students displayed great Akhlaq, and we are proud that we were the only Islamic School to engage in the competition. While we did not 'win' the entire competition, the knowledge that our students gathered, and the experience they took from the event is enough to consider our students the true winners. Most importantly, we won because we displayed the Akhlaq of Muslims and the ability of Muslims to participate in many different fields and activities.

It was a great event in which our students debated other students from top-performing schools across Victoria and were able to put the skills they have been learning and practicing in their weekly afterschool Debate classes. Their participation highlighted the students' dedication, our College’s focus on striving toward excellence, and the need for Islamic representation across all applicable areas.

We extend our greatest thanks to Ms Aishah Arain for freeing her busy schedule to drive us to the event, as well as our Media Captain Samar Akkad for attending the excursion with us and taking many pictures of the day.

Most importantly, we were proud of the immense confidence and courage our students displayed in the event and the great mannerisms they radiated and displayed during the event. We have all learned a lot from this competition and look forward to participating again next year and winning the entire competition, inShaAllah.
