Year 6G Excursion: Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary

Our Year 6 girls visited the Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary, located on the La Trobe University (Bundoora) campus grounds this week for a unique educational experience.

Divided into two groups, they engaged in an array of captivating activities that broadened their understanding of nature and conservation:

One group embarked on a fascinating Wilderness Wander, delving into the intricate web of interactions between living organisms and the sanctuary’s non-living elements. They not only observed but actively participated in constructing nesting boxes, fostering an appreciation for the importance of preserving habitats.

Simultaneously, the second group immersed themselves in the sanctuary’s thriving wetland system. Equipped with dip nets, they ventured into the wetland, collecting intriguing insect samples and gaining firsthand insights into the delicate balance of this unique ecosystem. These samples were then examined under microscopes, unveiling a hidden world of intricate details.

After a tranquil outdoor lunch, the groups switched activities, ensuring every student had the chance to partake in both captivating experiences. The enthusiasm and enjoyment displayed by the students were evidence of the profound impact this outing had on their understanding and appreciation of wildlife and the natural world.
