ASC Student Presentations at Parliament House

5 September 2018

This year and for the first time, six ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ students attended the annual "My Voice, My Vote" event held at the Parliament House, organised by National Council of Women Victoria.

Fatima Mohamed (Year 12), Hafsa Sarwar (Year 11), Aisha Arain (Year 10), Sondos Mahmandar (Year 10), Melike Cokmez (Year 10) and Nur Naziihah Hafidi (Year 8) were selected to represent Al Siraat. Only 12 schools from all of Victoria had an opportunity to attend this event.

The girls have been spending the last two months researching the topic of gender equality in the workplace and in leadership to prepare for this event. They even had the support of our local Mayor of the City of Whittlesea, Kris Pavlidis who the students had an opportunity to interview last term. Two students, Fatima and Hafsa, were selected as speakers for the group to present their research.

Our speakers both gave incredible speeches which resulted in thunderous applause across the Legislative Chamber of Parliament House.

We applaud our students for representing the College so positively at this prestigious event and for sharing their perspectives confidently as young ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Muslim women.

We look forward to developing more students as spokespeople for our community.
