Student Volunteers at "Carnival of Connections"

2 November 2022

As part of our Values-In-Action Program, 12 of our Year 8 and Year 9 Secondary students as well as College Captain Zainab Rida gave up their Sunday afternoon to volunteer at the "Carnival of Connections" event, organised and hosted by Whittlesea Interfaith Network (WIN).

The colourful event held at the Epping Memorial Hall on last Sunday, 29th October celebrated the diverse multicultural diversity and harmony within our City of Whittlesea. Attendees saw various performances ranging from cultural dance to musical instruments, including a drumming and guitar play by our very own ASC staff member Sameer Raza Khan) and had many beautiful traditional outfits on display by participating groups and audience members.

MC of the event was WIN President Gurinder Kaur, with VIP speeches delivered by the Hon. Lily D'Ambrosio MP (Minister for Energy, Solar Homes, the Environment and Climate Action), Viv Nguyen AM (Chairperson of the Victorian Multicultural Commission) and Kris Pavlidis (founder of WIN).

Our Secondary student volunteers helped with the setup and closure of the event, greeted guests upon their arrival, manned the food stall and also helped out at some of the stalls. We are very grateful for their collective service to the wider local community and thank them for their time and effort on the day.

The following Year 8 and 9 students each volunteered four hours of community service:

  • Fatima Al Jassim
  • Yusra Irfan
  • Nusaiba Islam
  • Nawal Jaleel
  • Amirah Jumale
  • Ezaan Khan
  • Jameela Makbool
  • Ayesha Malik
  • Fatimah Muhammad
  • Qirrat Noor Yousuf
  • Zohaib Zulqarnain.

A special mention to our newly elected College Captain Zainab Rida who was the official events photographer of the day and did a fantastic job at it, as always! JazakAllah khairan!
