Year 4 and Hifz A Iftar Night at School

23 June 2016

As part of our ‘Welcoming Ramadan Programme’, and also in conjunction with our Unit of Inquiry on ‘Civics and Citizenship’, our Year 4 and Hifz A students were treated to a delicious and scrumptious Iftar at the College last night.

Students were encouraged to come to school in their cultural attire on the day of the Iftar in celebration of our unity as one Ummah, despite the great many cultures and backgrounds that we all come from. The boys and girls in particular were proud to show off their beautiful gowns and outfits.

Students remained on site after school to join in the Ramadan activities from 3:45 to 5:00 pm. The boys were involved in an interactive Quiz with Mr Keown while the girls enjoyed some beautiful craft and colouring in time with Ms Emily and Ms Soumaya in the Junior School Building. Ms Nazreen and some kind student helpers were getting the various food items set-up and ready for the communal breaking of the fast at Maghreb time. Students broke their fast together with dates and water before coming together to pray Maghreb.

In true community spirit, parents had been encouraged to bring a dish to share, as the righteous salaf were keen to provide food for others and they thought that this was one of the best of righteous deeds, as was narrated by Zayd ibn Khaalid al-Juhani: "The Messenger of Allah (saw) said “Whoever gives iftar to one who is fasting will have a reward like his, without that detracting from the reward of the fasting person in the slightest.” (al-Tirmidhi; Ibn Maajah)

It was indeed wonderful to see how many parents had followed our request as the food was plenty and the multicultural variety simply amazing. Students, staff and parents were treated to healthy salads, hearty Biryani and other rice and meat dishes, pasta and noodles, fried samosas, roti, spring rolls and many other goodies, including various sweets, drinks and ice cream for dessert.

A warm JazakAllah Khairan to all of our lovely parents for your ongoing support. May you and your family be blessed during and after Ramadan.
