Annual Interfaith Ramadan Dinner 2018

25 May 2018

On Thursday, 24 May 2018, Al Siraat hosted an Interfaith Ramadan iftar in conjunction with the City of Whittlesea.

The event was MC'ed by our very own student alumni Sumaya Mahad Ali and was attended by representatives from local community groups, Mayor Cr Kris Pavlidis and local councillors as well as and members of our own school community.

The Welcome to Country was done by our very own local Indigenous Muslim elder of the Wurunjeri, Br. Hassan Andrew Gardiner who is the grandfather of one of our students.

Speeches were made by Founder and Principal Mr Fazeel and Mayor of a City if Whittlesea Cr Kris Pavlidis.

Several councillors attended the Ramadan dinner as well as members of Victoria Police including Superintendent Timothy Hansen and Acting Senior Sergeant Daniel Jamison. Our good friends at St. Monica’s College, Whittlesea Interfaith Network (WIN), Brotherhood of St Laurence and various areas in the City of Whittlesea were also well represented.

Mufti Aasim rashid gave a wonderful speech before the breaking of the fast (Iftar) and congregational prayers.

The event included a video of the humble beginnings of our College and a presentation by the amazing work of our Student Representative Council (SRC) members and interfaith students as well as reflections and poetry.

Special thanks go to all the wonderful volunteers who made this event super special. We thank each of them for their support and determination. May Allah Subhanahu wa Teala reward you and your families generously and hastily.
